It can be tricky navigating all the new trends, superfoods and health products out there dying for your attention. So how do you really now what you should be eating?
A lot of my kitchen play and experiments take inspiration from this fabulous book called “10 things you need to eat,” written by Anahad O’Connor and Dave Lieberman. At first sight, the title and cover appealed to me. Great, 10 things to focus on first, should be easy, then I can simply add ingredients that I already know are good for me and go from there. The cover made me smirk a little, showing off cute tiny drawings of fruit, nuts, quinoa, fish and such that I was already in love with. Perfect fit, this book would give me more knowledge of vegetables and grains that I already enjoyed cooking with. I simply didn’t know it would be this fabulous, it’s very funny and an easy read, yet super educational and interesting, plus full of recipes. It helped me establish a good healthy eating routine and gave me key ingredients to play with in the kitchen.
I love this book so much that I added it to my resource section and included some information of what I learned about each of the 10 things you need to eat. I hope it inspires you and maybe you even take the plunge and buy the complete book. Enjoy!
We eat more Salmon than any other fish and I try to do something different every time. One of our favorite is wild caught Atlantic salmon, baked with my a blood orange ginger glaze and topped with crushed candied walnuts. A delicious sweet and spicy glaze that works well with the natural flavor of salmon.
For the glaze; I use a few tablespoons of ‘blood orange marmalade’, add at least one or more tablespoons of fresh grated ginger and top that off with a squeeze of lemon juice and some squirts of California Just Chili hot sauce.
I mix it all together and spread the glaze evenly over the lightly salted salmon cuts. To finish it off, sprinkle some crushed candied walnuts and then bake the salmon in the owen at 350 degrees F, for 10-15 minutes and it’s done!
My hair isn’t curly, nor is it straight. I got this irregular wave going on that most often needs to be tamed with a round brush blow dry. I have struggled and given up on that perfectly natural straight blond Swedish hair that some are blessed with, and embraced the natural waves over the years
unfortunately looking like the typical American news anchor at times.
My flat iron is collecting dust in the drawer, I never mastered that thing and felt that it was taking away the volume if not plain and simply frying my hair
which looses volume when you’re hair isn’t there anymore. I am a loyal and avid Kerastase user, however, since my stylist Rose recently moved to a Bumble and bumble salon I’ve had the opportunity to try some new fun products and found this “Straight” gooey gel substance that actually WORKS! It doesn’t leave my hair thin and fragile, it simply helps to straighten the hair using my dear large round brush and somehow, it adds some bounce and volume to it as well. I am impressed and must give some props to Bb!
Also, I do think it would work well for you ladies still addicted to your flat irons, it might ease the burn.

I figure it’s time to tell the world about my love affair with this fabulous HOT SAUCE!!! Some of you Swedes are most likely grinning right now, knowing it’s sitting there untouched in your pantry since Christmas, probably thinking it’s too hot or not knowing what to do with it (exception for you Gabe).
No worries, I’ll get you all fresh ones come New Year. “California Just Chili Hot Sauce” is made locally here in San Diego by Bill and Sherry Ingram of Point Loma, a family owned business with a great concept. They have created this perfect chili sauce that doesn’t make your taste buds go all numb (unless your name is Em), it simply enhances any dish you add it to without overpowering it. Our fridge is always fully stocked!
I needed that boost of nutrient packed warm crispy veggies as I was slumping down my desk chair wondering if I missed lunch. I must have since the sun was starting to glare my screen the way it does around 2 in the afternoon if I’ve forgot to close the blinds. It had to be simple, quick and healthy and my go-to is usually; any vegetable I can find in my fridge with olive oil, herbs and Parmesan cheese for 15 minutes in the owen. I eat A WHOLE LOT of sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts, they are two constant vegetables in my fridge. Healthy, fun and oh so yummy! I added some baby broccoli, yellow peppers and heirloom tomatoes with a dash of lemon pepper and sea salt. About 12 minutes in, I tossed a handful of grated parmesan, fresh basil and micro greens on top and let it all melt together.
Parmesan makes the world go round. I served my symphony of gooey yet crispy vegetables with a few spoonfuls of peach chutney and a splash of California Just Chili Hot Sauce I freak’n love my hot sauce. Lunch time!
I scored some mini heirloom tomatoes today, thanks Trader Joe! Living in California you definitely miss the seasons and you look for every little sign that it might be changing. I know it’s fall when the unique seasonal vegetables start appearing in the local markets, and I love fall. Thanks for finally stopping by!
So today I spent a solid hour getting lost in my familiar and wonderfully bohemian store “The World Market“. I live an elevator ride and 12 feet from it so I do tend to drop in fairly frequently, browse what’s new that week, get some inspiration and peace. I guess you could add it to my list of hobbies.
A few candles, jars of jelly, Wasa breakfast bread and three sneaky chocolate bars followed me home today and they all had to be taste tested before my shoes even came off. “Divine” White Chocolate with Strawberries came out on top, simply amazing!!! Wow! You friends out there should be looking forward to your birthdays! First one already in the mail for grandma.

The Pineapple Chutney from last weekend was a big hit and disappeared fast, so I decided to go nuts and have myself a little Chutney Weekend. Armed with habanero, bell peppers, more pineapple and yes, peaches! why not? must work just as well I was thinking. I got to work and voila! Now I have both Pineapple and Peach Chutney to last me for weeks.
